Luckily, you can awaken to the Elemental Lantern Karakuri during this fight, which reduces the damage of elemental attacks while it is active. Otherwise, you may just have to eat the damage and hope you survive.
The only way to escape this attack is if you have a Spring Karakuri nearby to launch you to safety. The most dangerous of these is its belly drum attack, in which the Gritdog sits up and starts slamming its belly while the magnetic sand constantly draws you closer. Several of the Gritdog's enraged attacks involve covering the nearby area with magnetic sand, which it then uses to pull you towards itself while preparing a deadly attack. When enraged, the Gritdog's attacks become more powerful, and it will use several new moves incorporating its elemental abilities. When enraged, the Gritdog's tail spikes will grow in size and glow red, and a red "mask" will appear around its face. Watch for these attacks from the back and front of the Kemono, respectively. Additionally, the Gritdog has two attacks that it will use twice in a row, the double tail swipe and the double claw swipe. By narrowly avoiding these attacks, you can put yourself in a position to attack the Kemono as its recovering from its body slam. When you see the Gritdog either jump into the air or stand on its back legs, it's best to get away from its belly. Mainly, the Gritdog will attack by slamming its belly onto the ground, either by jumping into the air first or creating waves of crystals after. This means that there are several counterattack opportunities between each of its heavy hitters. Typically, its attacks are slow, relying on power over speed. The Gritdog uses a combination of brute force attacks and elemental creations to overwhelm you with high damage.
